Let it be too easy. Let life be easy.
Very much so in the case of SRSing, easy items put you in a good mood (i.e. they’re fun), you feel successful because you can blaze through them, but you’re still learning.
The only trick I’ve had is when I wanted to memory a phrase of speech that wasn’t well shortened or simplified, where the entire context was useful to understanding its meaning. But that only happened far later in my SRS, and I only picked of those the ones I really like and wanted to be able to quickly say.
