Today’s transcript is from Gladiator. One of my favorite movies. I didn’t get round to seeing it until about 2005. Being a man of extensive huevos, I personally did not cry at the end, but, my…friend did. Anywhere, here’s the English and Japanese. Also:

I like how the Japanese pronunciation (vowels, especially) is much closer to what we presume (?) Latin sounded like…well, the “Marcus Aurelius” part at least; Maximus’ name seems like it was modeling the English. Anyway, enjoy!
I think he might want 復讐 instead of 復習, unless he’s talking about SRS reps or something 😛

I think メレディアス should read メリディアス. It’s a bit difficult to tell if the second mora is れ or り from the mp3 clip, but I listened to the line several times and am fairly sure it’s り. Then again, I also though it was れ when I heard it first time. My laptop doesn’t have the best speakers to transcribe a movie either.
I can’t help cracking up at this, because the voice actor doing Maximus also does, ‘the Dude’ from Big Lebowski, and Ron Burgundy from Anchorman…..!!

I found other (Japanese) people online with the same error…I wonder if it’s one of those English “psychophonological” typos — sort of like typing “would of” instead of “would have”.

The voice actor relationships one gets to develop are pretty interesting 😀
For the longest time, I could never quite get used to the fact that Neo (Matrix) and Jack Bauer (24) are voiced by the same guy.
I think that it might be necessary to post the translation for the entire movie. Is IS possibly the best movie ever after all. Too bad you’d probably get sued if you tried to sell it.
It’s also too bad Joaquin Phoenix is crazy and has decided to pursue a terrible hip hop career; he couldn’t have been a better (or worse, depending on perspective) Commodus.
It’s ALSO too bad that we’ve been beaten to death with the whole Ridley Scott/Russell Crowe combo (are they gay for each other?) that’s pretty much gone straight downhill since Gladiator. Apparently Russell Crowe actually thought the script for the movie was cheesy and lame, and tried to get them to change it. Why are good actors so crazy and/or stupid?
Not sure why I’m babbling about this. Maybe just a bit obsessed with the movie.
